Frequently asked questions
Are these dates official?
Each date shows its status. Calculated and Estimated dates come from the Umm al-Qura calendar. A date is marked Officially confirmed only after an official announcement for Saudi Arabia has been checked.
Why can Islamic holiday dates differ by country?
Islamic months start with the new crescent moon. Countries announce Ramadan and the Eids based on their own moon sighting or calculation, so the same occasion can fall on different days in different countries.
Which of these are public holidays in Saudi Arabia?
Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are official holidays in Saudi Arabia, with the holiday period announced each year. The other occasions listed are religious dates, not public holidays.
Can I add these dates to my phone calendar?
Yes. Press “Add to calendar (.ics)” above the table to download the selected dates. The file opens in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar and Outlook. Each holiday page also has a Google Calendar link for its next date.
Why does Ramadan move every year?
The Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so each Islamic occasion falls about 11 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar every year.
